Blepharoplasty Incisions

Where are the incisions for eyelid surgery?

Blepharoplasty in Indianapolis, INIn general, eyelid skin heals nicely with eyelid surgery.Incisions leave a fine line that is barely visible and easily camouflaged with make-up.

Incisions for the upper eyelid are placed along the natural upper eyelid crease. With time, this incisionis covered by the upper eyelid fold. Incisions for the lower eyelids are placed just below the lashes and extend into one of the crow’s feet. Most patients already have a natural crease in this area and eyelash growth easily camouflages this area even without make-up.

Younger patients with excess lower eyelid puffiness (fat pockets), but little to no extra skinare candidates for “transconjunctival” lower blepharoplasty. With this approach there is no external incision. In this procedure, the redundant fatty tissue is approached from an incision placed in the conjunctiva(pink lining one sees when they pull their eyelid down). From here, the surgeon can either remove or reposition lower eyelid fatty tissue. No sutures are required.

When sutures are used in eyelid surgery, they are typically removed at 5-7 days.Make up can be applied shortly thereafter. Most patients are back to social activities and work by two weeks.

Deciding which incisions are right for your eyelid procedure begins with a consultation with your cosmetic facial plastic surgeon.
