Can a hallowed appearance be prevented after a Lower Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty in Indianapolis, INQuestion:

I am considering lower blepharoplasty, but concerned about developing a hallowed appearance afterwards. Can this be prevented?

Answer:

Lower blepharoplasty is a procedure to rejuvenate the lower eyelids. It typically involves skin removal and tightening as well as fat contouring. With time, surgeons have become more aware that excess fat removal can lead to a “hollowed” appearance afterwards.

Newer techniques now often incorporate fat repositioning. Instead of removing fat, the surgeon will relocate the fatty tissue, typically along the orbital rim. If a patient had areas that are already sunken, such as a deepened nasojugal groove, fat can be repositioned into that location for a softening effect.

With todays fat repositioning lower blepharoplasty techniques, patients can achieve a more youthful appearance without the hallowed look of the past.
